The Wallingford Garden Club

The Wallingford Garden Club has sponsored the Gardeners Market for the past ten years.

The Garden Club has been a part of the Wallingford community since 1930 and a member of the Federated Garden Clubs since 1933.  Our members are working all around town on a variety of projects:

  • Town Gardens:  Our members plant and maintain gardens at the Police Station, at the gazebo at Johanna Manfreda Fishbein Park (the railroad station green), in front of the cemetery wall across from the gazebo, at the intersection of Pond Hill Road and South Elm Street, the Julia Roudi Herb Garden at the Historical Society's Parsons House, at the Homeless Shelter, the Wallingford Day Care Center, and two planters at the Senior Center.
  • Holiday Wreaths:  Large evergreen wreaths and small candy wreaths are made by our members and donated to civic organizations to adorn many buildings around town.
  • Holiday Tea: In December, we invite the entire community to a festive Holiday Tea featuring sandwiches, desserts, tea, and coffee, and music in the Communtiy Room of the Wallingford Public Library.  The walls of the Community Room are decorated for the month of December with wreaths and other seasonal items created by club members.
  • Plant Sale:  Each May we pot up perennnials from our gardens & donate other gardening items for our annual fund raiser.
  • Gardeners Market:  Garden Club members organize and volunteer at the weekly market, to be held on eleven successive Saturdays, July 17 through September 25, 2010.  Last year there were over 60 vendors.  Certified Master Gardeners from the club are available to answer questions on gardening, plant identification, and insect identification.  The Club has a booth at the Market that features information, a plant clinic, gardening advice, recipes using the fresh produce and herbs, as well as plants, flowers, herbs, fresh vegetables, fruit, and much more.  Stop by and say hello - we're on the Green in front of the Railroad Station!
  • Flower Show:  On Saturday, June 14, 2008, we presented a small standard flower show at the Wallingford Senior Center: "Garden Melodies".  The show was a great success, and we are continuing our design study in preparation for our next show!
  • Cook Book:  Our new cookbook has just been published and sales were brisk at the  Gardeners Markets of September 5 and September 12, 2009.  To purchase a copy of the 600-recipe limited edition Garden to Kitchen, please call Gini Mita at 269-0305.  The cookbook is also available at Wallingford Center, Inc., 261 Center Street, 203.284.1807, and at the Bookseller, the Wallingford Public Library, 200 No. Main Street.
